Absence
If your child is absent, please telephone the school admin team as soon as possible - before 9am on the first day of absence (and each subsequent day of absence) on 0113 2671222.
Planned absences in term time will only be approved by the Head teacher in exceptional circumstances. A Leeds City Council exceptional circumstances request form must be completed (see below). Holidays in term time interrupt continuity of teaching and learning and will not be authorised.
We also have an afternoon registration at 1.00pm. If for any reason your child is absent in the morning but is returning to school in the afternoon they must be signed in at the office by their parent or carer. They can then join their classes for afternoon registration at 1.00pm prompt.
Procedures for Following Up Absence
If a child is absent and there has been no notification by the parent/carer with an explanation for the absence, then the following actions will be taken:
-
If the school has not been informed of your child’s absence by 9am, parent/carers will be sent a text to ask that you inform the school of the reason for absence by phone or email.
-
If no communication has been received from the parent/carer, then phone calls will be made to all contacts in the priority order that we have listed for your child.
-
If no contact has been made, the school will seek a ‘welfare check’ on the child. This may involve contacting further services, including social services or the police, to help inform us of the safe whereabouts of the child.
Illness
If your child is unwell we would encourage them to remain at home until they are fully fit. If your child has improved by lunchtime we would welcome that child coming into school at 1pm for afternoon registration.
If your child is ill whilst at school, we will contact you by telephone and children will be cared for until you arrive. Please ensure that we have two primary contacts in case your child becomes ill in school and also in case of emergency. Minor accidents i.e. cut and grazes, are dealt with in school and you will receive an accident form if your child has been given any formal treatment.
If your child either vomits or has diarrhoea they must not return to school until 48 hours after the last episode.
We cannot administer any medication that has not been prescribed by a doctor. Our current Medicine Administration Policy can be found on the Policies page HERE. If your child requires any medication administering whilst at school please contact the School Admin Team.
APPOINTMENTS
Parents are encouraged to book medical/dental appointments outside of school hours where possible. The formal end of the school day is 3:15pm providing adequate time for medical/dental appointments after this time. If this is not possible, parents are asked to notify school before the appointment so that the attendance register can be amended to show why the child is not in school and to provide a copy of the medical/dental appointment letter.
ABSENCE - EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Bramhope Primary School is committed to reducing the number of holidays that take place in term time. For any absence that is planned School must be notified in advance and a Leeds City Council Exceptional Circumstances Form completed - available from the School Office. This form is then reviewed by the Headteacher and the absence will be authorised or not. The exceptional circumstances request form can be obtained from the School Office. Holidays in term time will not be authorised.
